How often I have heard the phrase "watercolors are so unforgiving" meaning that unlike oils or acrylics one cannot go over them when one makes a mistake.

That is really not true since there are many techniques to "fix" goofs or errors. However, watercolors are so inexpensive to do that unless one has a lot of hours into a painting it is often easier to just chuck it and start all over again.

October is one of my very favorite months. My oldest daughter, Julie started a family tradition for Halloween. Her children are grown now but her sisters, who have small children are following suit with this fun tradition.

Here it is: She makes two huge pots of chili. You will find the recipe at the bottom of this article.

Dear Mom,

Scraped knees, fighting siblings, forgotten homework. Lost clothes, broken glasses, soccer practice. Late night tears, early morning rants, coming home past curfew. Our first steps, first tooth, first day at school. First date, first dance, first day driving. Graduation, wedding, grandbabies. These are all the things you have put up with from us all these years. After all that how can you still like us more or less still love us? Mom, you are an amazing woman. Just thought you would like to know.

How many times have you heard people around you say things such as, "I'll organize the garage tomorrow," or "I'm not in the mood today, I'll fix the sink in the morning," or "This just isn't the right time for me, maybe tomorrow," or even "Tomorrow I'll tell him/her just how much they mean to me and how much I love them. Tomorrow will be our day."

And just how many of you have said similar things as well?

Just because someone "big and powerful" tells you and everyone you know that you are something, doesn't make it so. It only becomes so when you yourself believe it. That's right, you heard me. Your truth is your perception.

Far too often battered mothers endure emotional abuse through their divorce. They live their lives from the perception that their perpetrators have painted about them. And over time they lose sight of who and what they really are.

These women go around trying to convince everyone they encounter that they are not what their abusers have declared them to be. Yet in doing this, they wear the hat that he bought for them.
