Gestational diabetes is the kind of diabetes that some women get during pregnancy... it is not the same disease as Type 2 diabetes, even though it usually behaves the same way. It is a condition during pregnancy in which the body becomes resistant to the insulin it makes; it can often be managed through changes in diet and meal planning. It often disappears after pregnancy but it is a warning that unless lifestyle and dietary habits change between pregnancies or after childbirth, Type 2 diabetes may be in the future.
